Hoover Dam:
Hoover Dam is a US National Historic Landmark and a concrete arch-gravity dam on the border
between Nevada and Arizona in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. It was built during the Great Depression between 1931 and 1936. It provides hydroelectric power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona and California. Each generator can supply electricity to 100,000 households.
About the Gold Strike Inn Casino:
The Gold Strike Inn is now call Hoover Dam Lodge and is located at US Route 93 Business - just outside the city limits of Boulder City and only a couple of miles from Hoover Dam. If you have ever driven to Hoover Dam, it's a nice little stop surrounded by the beauty of the Lake Mead Recreation Area. The Gold Strike Inn opened in 1958 with a snack bar, gift shop, cocktail lounge, service statin and six slot machines. In the 1960's they tried to incorporate old west attractions, however, water and financing were problematic. The property was named the Gold Strike in from 1958-1998 and Hacienda from 1999-2015. Today, the owners of Dotty's slot parlors, Nevada Restaurant Services, owns and operates the property.
Fun Fact #1:
The property was originally a patented mining claim, the area was known as Sullivan's Gulch - for Patrick Sullivan who was seeking gold and turquoise.
Fun Fact #2:
In the 1920's the Bureau of Reclamation withdrew millions of acres for the creation of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, however they overlooked Sullivan's land.

The national parks Service has made several attempts to buy the land.

People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens. The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The older silver strikes have a higher silver content than the newer ones. As the price of silver went up, the amount of silver in a strike came down. Today, most silver strikes are Clad - brass with heavy silver plating.
