About the MGM Grand Las Vegas:
Located at 3799 South Las Vegas Boulevard,
corner of Tropicana Avenue and the Strip, the MGM Grand opened on December 18, 1993.  The property was originally the site of the Golf Club Motel in the 1960's.  The Marina, a 700 room hotel, was built and opened in 1975.  In 1989, Kirk Kerkorian bought the Marina and Tropicana Country Club which was located behind the Marina.  The "Wizard of Oz" / "Emerald City" was the theme throughout the casino for the first three years.  The property included a family friendly theme park called "MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park" which was located behind the casino.  The theme park closed in 2001 and was replaced with the luxury condominium and hotel complex called "The Signature at MGM Grand, which opened in 2006. In 1997, the entrance to the casino was renovated.  They replaced the lion entrance with a six -story gold lion structure.  The property has gone through many expansions and renovations in the last 26 years.  Today, the resort includes the MGM Grand Garden Arena, a convention center, Hakkasan (club), CSI the Experience and Top Golf.  Many top celebrity restaurants also reside at the resort.
    Fun Fact:
The MGM Grand Las Vegas is the largest single hotel in the US with 6,852 rooms.
    Fun Fact #2:
When the resort opened in 1993, it was the largest hotel in the world.
    Fun Fact #3:
From 1989-1990, the Marina was known as the MGM-Marina.
    Fun Fact #4:
When the casino first opened, a large display featuring Emerald City, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion existed.  There was also an elaborate yellow brick road.
    Fun Fact #5:
The original Marina hotel was incorporated into the hotel structure of the MGM Grand - it was never imploded.
    Fun Fact #6:
Part of the reason that the lion head entrance was removed and remodeled was because it had the appearance of walking into the lion's mouth.  Many Asian gamblers found it bad luck to walk through the jaws of a lion.
    Fun Fact #7:
EFX was the resort's first production show.  It opened on March 23, 1995 and closed December 31, 2002. The lead role was a headline star that changed about every two years.  They were Michael Crawford, David Cassidy, Tommy Tune, and Rick Springfield.  At the time of its premier, it was the most expensive and largest-scaled theater installation in the world.
