About The Tropicana Las Vegas:
The Tropicana is located at one of the busiest intersections in Las Vegas, at 3801 S. Las Vegas Boulevard.  It opened on April 4, 1957 and was the dream of Ben Jaffe, who was an executive of the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, Florida.  His idea was to feature a luxury resort with a Cuban style ambiance.  The property was known for its famous showgirls and opulence, but also for its associations with organized crime figures.  One month after the property opened, there were rumors and allegations about organized crime associated with the new luxury property.  J. Kell Houssels, owner of the Las Vegas Club and El Cortez, was brought in to oversee the Tropicana.  During this time, the famous Folies Bergere stage show was brought in from Paris, France featuring feathered showgirls.  Ownership changes occurred several more times in the 1970's and 1980's along with FBI investigations into organized crime skimming from the casino and check fraud. Hotel chain Ramada Inns purchased the property in 1979.  Today, the property is owned by Penn National Gaming and is a franchise of Hilton's DoubleTree chain.  There are over 1400 rooms.
